Export your Typora notes

Typora edits plain .md files that already sit in a folder on your disk, so there is no export step. Zip the folder and drop it in.

Zip the folder you write in

  1. Find the folder holding your .md files. Typora keeps no library of its own, so this is wherever you chose to save them.
  2. Right-click the folder and choose Compress (macOS) or Send to > Compressed (zipped) folder (Windows).
  3. Drop the .zip into the importer.

Settle where your images live before you zip

Typora can keep an image beside the note, inside an assets subfolder, or leave it wherever you dragged it from. Only the images inside the folder you zip can come across. Open Preferences > Image, set it to copy images into the note's own assets folder, and use "Format > Image > Copy image files to..." on any older note whose pictures still point somewhere else.

What comes across

Subfolders become real folders, at any depth. Headings, tables, task lists, code blocks, footnotes, math and highlights all survive, and bare URLs become clickable links. YAML front matter is read for the title, dates and tags.

Tags come across both ways: from YAML front matter, and from #hashtags written in the prose. A hashtag inside a code block stays code, and a bare number like #4711 stays a ticket reference.

Import into PrivacyNotes

  1. Open PrivacyNotes and go to Settings > Import & Export.
  2. Pick Typora as the source.
  3. Drop in the file you just exported, or click to browse.
  4. Check what the preview says will arrive, then start the import.
