Import from Simplenote

Simplenote has a clean built-in export that takes three clicks, and PrivacyNotes reads the resulting zip directly.

Export your notes from Simplenote

  1. Log in at app.simplenote.com (or open the desktop app).
  2. Open the sidebar menu and go to Settings.
  3. Under Account, choose "Export Notes". A .zip downloads immediately.

What comes along

The zip contains an authoritative notes.json with all your notes and their metadata: tags come along, and creation dates are preserved. Drop the whole .zip into the importer as-is.

Import into PrivacyNotes

  1. Open PrivacyNotes and go to Settings > Import & Export.
  2. Pick Simplenote as the source.
  3. Drop in the file you just exported (or click to browse) and start the import.
  4. Imported notes arrive tagged with their source, so you can review or bulk-edit the whole batch afterwards.
