Import from Apple Notes

Apple Notes has no bulk export of its own, so the practical route on a Mac is the free Exporter app, which writes your notes out as Markdown. PrivacyNotes reads that export directly, including images.

Export your notes on a Mac

  1. Install the free "Exporter" app from the Mac App Store.
  2. Open it and export your notes. You get a folder of Markdown files, organized by account and folder, with images alongside.
  3. In Finder, right-click that folder and choose "Compress" to turn it into a .zip.

Coming from iPhone or iPad

Per-note zips shared from iOS (a small .zip containing the note's Markdown plus an Attachments folder) are accepted too: drop them in one at a time. For a whole library, the Mac route above is far faster.

What comes along

Folder structure, note text, and embedded images survive the trip. Notes keep their titles, and attachments land in the encrypted file storage alongside their note.

Import into PrivacyNotes

  1. Open PrivacyNotes and go to Settings > Import & Export.
  2. Pick Apple Notes as the source.
  3. Drop in the file you just exported (or click to browse) and start the import.
  4. Imported notes arrive tagged with their source, so you can review or bulk-edit the whole batch afterwards.
