# Are my trackers and medications in my backup?

Your journal entries are, with every value you logged on them, and so are your factors and your own habit questions. Your medication list and your custom tracker definitions are not in [the .zip or the encrypted backups](https://privacynotes.app/help/backup-strategy/): they belong to your account's settings, which sync to every device you sign in on.

[To keep them in a file as well](https://privacynotes.app/help/tracker-json-csv/), use **Download JSON** in Settings > Import & Export > Trackers, which holds every medication with its schedule, refills and dose history, and every custom tracker. A backup restored into a new vault brings back your entries, but the doses and custom values in them stay hidden there, because the medications and trackers they belong to are not in the backup.
