# Can tables add up numbers, like a total or an average? Yes. Type `=` in a table cell to pick a function, or write the formula yourself. The cell shows the answer instead of the text, and every answer updates the moment you change a cell it reads. Cells are named by column letter and row number, and the header counts as row 1, so your first row of data is row 2. The answers work on every account; picking from the menu is Pro. To try everything at once, download the example note, then open Settings > Import & Export > Import, choose **Markdown files** and pick the file. [Example note (.md)](https://privacynotes.app/marketing/table-formulas-examples.md) These are the functions, and they combine with `+`, `-`, `*`, `/` and brackets: - `SUM`, `PRODUCT`, `AVG`, `MEDIAN`, `MIN`, `MAX` and `COUNT` work across a range, as in `=SUM(B2:B10)` - `ABS`, `SQRT`, `SIGN`, `CEIL`, `FLOOR`, `ROUND` and `LOG` work on one value, as in `=ROUND(B7, 2)` - `PI`, `E`, `TAU` and `PHI` are constants, and `RAND` gives a random number - `=B7-B2` subtracts one cell from another, and `=SUM(B2:B10)*0.2` takes a percentage of a total Click a cell that shows an answer and the formula comes back, ready to change. Your note stores the formula itself, never the result, so an export and any other Markdown app show `=SUM(B2:B10)` exactly as you wrote it. --- Source: https://privacynotes.app/help/table-formulas
