# Do calendar reminders work when the app is closed? On a phone, yes: up to 64 alerts, up to 400 days ahead, are handed to the phone itself, so they ring while PrivacyNotes is closed; opening and unlocking the app hands over more. In the desktop app a reminder rings while the app runs, and in a browser while PrivacyNotes is open in a tab. Each device plans its reminders from the items it holds, so no reminder comes from the server, and an item's title, time and day sync only inside the encrypted item. Add an alert from the Alert row of an item's Schedule view, up to five per item, and set the defaults under Settings > Date & Time > Calendar, where "Show titles in reminders" also lives. [An item behind your PIN](https://privacynotes.app/help/locked-vs-protected/) always rings as "Reminder" and the time, and so does every alert scheduled while the app lock is on. One handed over before the lock was on can keep its title until it rings. Reminders are part of Pro; [the calendar itself is free](https://privacynotes.app/help/calendar/). --- Source: https://privacynotes.app/help/reminders
