# How do I move my notes from Bear to PrivacyNotes?

Make a Bear backup and import it. In Bear, choose File > Backup Notes... and save the .bear2bk file. Then open Settings > Import & Export, pick Bear and drop the file in. The backup holds your whole library, so archived and trashed notes come along, and pinned and read-only notes keep that state.

Your tags come across as tags, and nested tags such as #work/projects are also rebuilt as folders. Highlights keep their Bear colors, [links between notes become note-links](https://privacynotes.app/help/note-links/), and images and attached files are imported into your storage.
