# Can I change how dates are shown?

Yes, in Settings > Date. **Date format** offers Automatic, Day first, Month first and Year first (ISO), and **Clock** offers Automatic, 24-hour and 12-hour. Automatic follows the app's language and each device's region, and your choice applies on all your devices.

Journal entries take their title from the date, and **Journal titles** in the same place offers ready-made formats in your date format, or **Custom pattern** to build your own from tokens such as `YYYY`, `MMMM` and `ddd`, with words in square brackets kept as typed. A new pattern applies to new entries only. To put today's date into any note, press Cmd+; on a Mac or Ctrl+; on Windows and Linux, and add Shift for the time as well. All of it is free.
