# Can the browser extension read my notes? No. The extension never holds the key that opens your notes. It locks each clip before it leaves your browser, and one of your apps turns it into a note at its next sync. If you turn on logins, the extension sees your logins, your cards, the public half of your SSH keys and your bookmarks, never a note's text and never a private key. They are protected by a PIN or passcode you set for the extension, separate from the app's. After 10 wrong tries the browser is disconnected, so a copy of your browser cannot be guessed open. Logins lock after 5 minutes without use and when the browser closes. The details are in our [threat model](https://github.com/LifetimeLabsHQ/PrivacyNotes.app/blob/main/THREAT_MODEL.md). --- Source: https://privacynotes.app/help/browser-extension-security
