# What does Archive do, and how is it different from Trash? Archive takes an item out of your lists without deleting it. Choose **Archive** in the item's "..." menu or its right-click menu, or in the selection toolbar for several items at once. Archived items leave All, their section, Pinned and the folder and tag counts, and wait in the **Archive** view at the bottom of the sidebar, which appears once something is archived. To keep them in All and in the counts, tick Archive in the **All** column of Settings > Lists. **Unarchive** in the same places brings an item back. Trash is for things you want gone: it [deletes them for good after 30 days](https://privacynotes.app/help/trash-auto-delete/) unless you turn that off. Archive never deletes anything, and archived items stay within reach, because a search in All, the quick switcher and note-links still find them. They sync and stay encrypted like everything else, and they still count toward your storage. Archive works on every item type and is free. --- Source: https://privacynotes.app/help/archive
